ELK HUNTING

 on a

 Private Ranch in

 Northern New Mexico

Also offering Deer & Turkey hunting and

Fly Fishing in our lakes or the Chama River

Our 5000 acre privately owned ranch consists of wooded hills and open grassy meadows, with elk, deer and turkey ... and occasionally bear, and is located near Chama, New Mexico at an altitude of about 8000 feet.  The moderate terrain and abundance of roads provide for easy access to the prime hunting areas.  Although we have resident elk, they are basically a migratory animal, and our ranch is ideally located to take advantage of this annual trek.

We do not provide food service, but nearby there are several restaurants in Chama, just three miles from our entrance gate.  There are also motels and RV parks nearby, or we can provide lodging upon request. Our experienced guides will provide transportation from your lodging to the ranch hunting areas, help locate the game, field dress and deliver carcasses to a meat processing (skin & quarter) facility located nearby.

We also provide excellent fishing, and our hunters fish free for large Rainbow trout in the Chama river, or in our annually stocked, aerated lakes
.  Barbless hooks only, and limit of 2 fish per hunter.

A herd of elk graze just a few steps outside the picture window of our Oso Lodge.  Also, we often see from this same location deer, turkey, bear, foxes, racoons, coyotes, and on rare occasions even mountain lions.  You can watch bald eagles "fishing" in the Chama River, just a few dozen feet away.  Looking through a magnifying lens from within the Lodge, is often a photographer's dream.

                      ANNUAL RESULTS
In order to not overhunt our ranch, each year we decide on how many total hunts we will sell, based on several factors.  In 2006, we started publishing our results by listing the number of elk killed, the missed opportunities which are beyond our control (missed shots, wounded and not found, or election to not take a shot waiting for a larger trophy, etc.) and the number of hunters not getting a shot. Since 2007, due to several positive factors, we normally experience phenomenal success rates of well over 90%.
